Breaking Generational Curses

I just saw a meme that said, “Why do I have to be the one to break all of these generational curses?”

It’s because you can. It’s because prior to now, our ancestors, grandparents and parents were consumed by the need to survive and to afford us the ability to do so.

We now have advanced to the point where survival is all but guaranteed. It’s pretty much a given for most of us in the western world at least. So now, we are charged with a new goal, to THRIVE.

With this comes the challenge of reprogramming not only the psychological mechanisms designed for survival but our very DNA. We must reprogram ourselves to thrive.

This is a lonesome task because we must fly in the face of all the survival techniques that got us here to break through the glass ceiling our parents aren’t even aware exists to a somewhere and something entirely new, completely alien.

Past generations look at us like we’re telling them they’re way is wrong.

They weren’t wrong! They did their job. They got us here. We survived.

Keeping us alive was much more difficult than most of us know because they were NOT born into the conditions we were. Survival was not a guarantee for them and their siblings.

They paved the way to this place, where survival is all but a given, afforded to damn near everyone, and handed us the opportunity to thrive all fueled by their own blood, sweat, and tears, and I don’t mean that as a euphemism. They gave their lives for our survival, and now they fear our reckless pursuit of something more may make it all for not, for nothing.

It’s our job to figure out what it means to thrive and how to accomplish that, hopefully in time for them to parish proudly. Our job is to pave the way for whatever comes after thriving.

So, why you gotta be the one?

Because everyone before you sacrificed their whole damn life to get you here with the tools and opportunity to do so.

Let’s make them proud. Even though they may not understand this at first, they will eventually. They will be proud beyond measure and belief when they survive to see us all thrive.
